MP Francesco Sorbara Marks Countdown to Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension

November 17, 2017 – Vaughan, Ontario – Francesco Sorbara, Member of Parliament for Vaughan-Woodbridge, on behalf of the Honourable Amarjeet Sohi, Minister of Infrastructure and Communities, marked the 30-day countdown to the opening of the Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension (TYSSE).

The Government of Canada has committed up to $697 million for the project.  The TYSSE is an 8.6 km extension of the TTC Line 1 from Downsview Park Station to the Vaughan Metropolitan Centre at Highway 7 in York Region which will include 6 new subway stations, three new commuter parking lots and TTC, York Region and GO bus terminals, making it easier for commuters to get around.

Investing more than $180 billion in infrastructure projects over 12 years, the Government of Canada is pledging unprecedented investments in infrastructure and, with the opening of the TYSSE, the Government continues to invest in the essential infrastructure that communities rely on daily.

Quote

“The Government of Canada recognizes how important affordable and efficient transit infrastructure is to growing the middle class and getting Canadians to work on time and back home quickly at the end of a long day.  With only 30 days to go until the new Line 1 subway extension if opened, I look forward to this project making Vaughan and the GTA more inclusive and sustainable.”

– Francesco Sorbara, Member of Parliament for Vaughan-Woodbridge
